Captives in Columbia
News has just come that a number of captives in Columbia are still alive. A former candidate for President, Ingrid Betancourt, three Americans and about a dozen other Columbian citizens are being held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, an insurgent group with a Marxist ideology. The gospel is widely known and proclaimed in Columbia. Pray for those being held, that in their captivity they will be comforted and encouraged by an awareness of God's love, and that those who hold them will be restrained from abusing their captives and will become aware of the reality of God's presence to convict and enable repentance. Pray that the good news of God's initiative in Christ will convict and encourage, that the outcome this situation will be an effective proclamation of the mercy of God. [12/1/07]
