Protests in Burma
In the last several days Myanmar has been in crisis as thousands of Buddhist monks have marched in the streets, joined by thousands of other ordinary citizens. The precipitating issue had to do with prices but the underlying issue is the abuses of the ordinary people by the government. After a few days of inaction the government troops finally began shooting defenseless people down in the streets. The streets are now quiet but the situation remains tense.
Even though the government is repressive of all group meetings there, there are a number of believers in the country. Pray for God to protect them and to enable them to provide comfort and encouragement to the Myanmar people. Pray that this crisis will bring the beauty and power of Jesus to public awareness, and that the gospel offer of citizenship in heaven will draw these suffering people to Christ. "Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly bodies to be like his glorious body by the power that enables him to subject all things to himself." [Phil 3:20-21]
